On Sunday, December 6, I gave in to temptation and took the Kuranda Scenic Railway train to... you guessed it -- Kuranda. Even though I had already been there by car, I have a bit of a fascination with trains and so thought it would be worthwhile to take the train up for the experience. It can be caught right in Cairns or at the Freshwater ( Read more... )

It was neat, but pretty expensive to do and if Greg hadn't said he would pick me up, I don't think I would have done it. It's $40 each way on the train (or $33 for students... she let me use my Canadian student ID, but I'm pretty sure the policy is for a Queensland student ID or International Student Identity Card; TIP: get an ISIC card... you will use it!). The Skyrail cable car is the alternative way back, but it about the same price. A combo of one each way is $90, I think. Considering you don't get to DO anything, it's kinda steep for me ( ... )

LOL! I think you're going to be FREEZING when you get back down here on Monday after all this heat :-) Darned, if I'd known you like trains I'd have taken you up to Puffing Billy. Depending on how long you stay we might be able to squeeze that in.

I'm freezing in Canberra already! I was wearing my sweater AND coat outside last night! But the moderate day temps have been lovely. :)

We'll have to look into the Puffing Billy train. Did you get my MSN message about the Great Ocean Road?

I was thinking the same thing. Totally would have yanked the chain and made up a lame excuse like I needed to pee or something. Worth the $10! Live a little Sarah! ~ Patti
