Driving in New Zealand

Mar 15, 2009 13:34

I'm working on some more photos, but for the time being, here are some poor-quality videos from my webcam that I recorded while driving from Fox Glacier to Franz Joseph, a super-windy road that you'll just have to drive yourself one day to believe. I taped the webcam to the dash, but it moved around a bit and as you can imagine, I was not in a ( Read more... )

I've tried to tell American friends--even friends from the mountains--that New Zealand roads will make you seasick. They don't believe me!

Roads on the West Coast, South Island--you know them well. We took the West Coast road from Hokitika to Queenstown, and I was over it. Completely. Over. It.

Great vids!

I thought I was quite clever in tagging the YouTube video with "motion sickness", hah! While my mum suffers from it, I am quite happy driving curving roads, flying in bumpy airplanes, and spinning circles in my wheelie chair. :p

Nicely done, though I am surprised the camera stayed upright with you driving that fast :P
I am so glad you are having fun and I am glad to see you have more people commenting now. And you were worried no one would read this blog HA!

The original video is sloooooow and boring... I doubt I went faster than 50 at any point!

I'd blog even if no-one read it, heh. I do love all the comments though -- but after I finish up housesitting here, I won't have regular internet access again and won't be able to respond to as many. :[

To get around the copyright music thing: change the name of the downloaded file (of the copy of it if you want to keep one with all the orginbal details), go into Properties, delete EVERYTHING in EVERY box and replace it with something innoncent like 'my music' or 'grandma's Xmas speech'. YouTube runs a recoginition program which relies on the information withing those boxes and the titles of the files used to block music. I was insanely proud of myself for working out how to get around it without needing to look it up :-D Should have been a hacker... either that or my natural badness comes in very helpful sometimes. ;-D

Aren't you a smarty! Naughty but smarty. I liked the "grandma's Xmas speech" part!

I don't mind the new song and I can't be bothered to re-upload it, so I'll just note this for future reference. It must be a fairly new thing, as it's the first time I have seen it.

Glad your friends spotlighted you - I am insanely jealous! My dream would be to travel and take photographs for a living! In 2004 I spent a month travelling in NZ (with a husband and 6 year old daughter) in a 4-berth camper van in 2004 - took some awesome pics in the South Island though travelled both N & S. Your blog has brought back some great memories. The UK is a lovely place to live but for travelling + photography I rate NZ and Iceland (I trekked there with my Nikon D40X last summer and the photo opportunities were just stunning).

Also love the horse pics on your website. My sister-in-law (who has just qualified as a horse shiatsu practitioner) has 2 horses so we are around them quite a bit and she had some professional pics taken of her two a while ago.

Keep up the good work and enjoy the rest of your photo-travels

PS we found Norah Jones "Feels like home" CD was a great backdrop when setting off in the camper van!

Can't say I am making a living off of this (these photos are just for fun), but paid travel photography is definitely something I would enjoy doing! I bet Iceland doesn't have as many tourists, heh.

Glad you are enjoying the photos and thanks for visiting my website too. Can't wait to do some more horse photography!

I had a moment of sheer terror when that car came whipping around the bend. "Sarah was too focused on her webcam, she's going to get hit! She forgot which side to drive on! Wait...other side of the road...no accidents. Huh."

I also thought, "OMG Sarah is on the wrong side!!"
We fail! haha

p.s. Sarah, Life is a Highway was probably allowed because it's by Tom Cochrane (not Tom Petty) and since he's Cdn Youtube doesn't care :P
