Was/Were?

Does no one know how to use the correct tense anymore? Apparently no one I know can distinguish between was/were and seen/saw. It's completely driving me insane!

Well, was/were gets into funtastic subjunctive stuff that breaks my brain. That's the sort of thing ubiquirk has had to try to straighten me out about more than once.

However, if it's just plain subject-verb agreement (e.g. "you was?) then ouch! And I can't even imagine the tortured sentence that confuses seen/saw.

It's as simple as, "Yes we was, because I seen it."

See how that one sentence could completely fry every synapse I'm trying to cling onto for dear life?
