Magificent Seven:ATF -- My Personal Canon

Apr 14, 2008 07:54

I had so much fun the other day with writing down my personal canon for the Magnificent Seven, things I believe are true and that form a background to my stories...most of the time...even though I know they're not necessarily supported by canon ( Read more... )

You do not go on and on - this is awesome, thank you - again, I'm going to reference it in my LJ if you don't mind.

BUT - and you knew this was coming - *ahem* - how about the personal canon for the YS universe????

The problem with doing one for YS is that, as one of the architects of the AU, my *personal* canon is in danger of becoming *everyone*'s canon. And that might unnecessarily limit people's creativity.

Does that make sense?

I am still waiting for you (and other folks) to pick up the banner here. :D

(And I'm trying to decide if I should post links to these on any of the comms.)

I just wanted to thank you for outlining my characters for me - lol!! The only thing I'd add is that JD is also the computer geek of the team.

Oh, and, JD living in the little room under the stairs? Are you sure you don't mean Blair living in the loft with Jim??

Well, I didn't include anything that was in the ATF bible, because I figured that was as close to canon as the AU has and I didn't need to reiterate that stuff. :D

But yes, he definitely is.

And yeah, I think it was in the ATF bible that they made it clear that Buck and JD's apartment is the loft from TS. :D (Which I have to admit I *quite* like. :D)

Hee, I like this. I absolutely love ATF, because I'm fascinated by the way the entire fandom has tacitly agreed on a canon that doesn't even EXIST. It's wonderful, and a joy to behold. Mag7 is the best fandom ever ^^

OMG Me too!! I just love the very concept of ATF. It delights me and thrills me and pleases me that it even exists. I may need to make more ATF graphics soon. It's a fun challenge to make icons and wallpapers for a fandom with no visual canon to draw from.

ATF is basically what got me into Mag7. I started out watching the episodes basically so I could get a handle on the characters for writing ATF. I *never* expected to write OW. (In fact I swore I wouldn't. Historical writing is a pain in the ass.)

I'm thinking that if I ever get round to figuring out how to make vids, I'm going to make a 'trailer' for an ATF TV series. Randomly splicing together stray bits of other things the boys have been in, adding Mag7 dialogue...

Or maybe I'll do something easier. Just thinking about that is tiring me out.

I don't like writing historical fic either, mainly because I lack the patience to research such things. That's why I love writing fantasy: "How does that work?" "Uh...magic!". Or supernatural type fandoms: "That's historically inaccurate!" "There are vampires and werewolves running around - what precisely is your point?"

"There are vampires and werewolves running around - what precisely is your point?"

I was looking at a vampires-in-modern-America book the other day and noticed on the copyright page at the front the phrase "This is a work of fiction" and I just busted out laughing. Hello, it's a freaking *vampire* book, of *course* it's a work of fiction! :D

I'm thinking that if I ever get round to figuring out how to make vids, I'm going to make a 'trailer' for an ATF TV series.

I would worship you forever if you did this. You would get instantly elevated to the status of Goddess. Especially if you put in some C/V subtext into the trailer, but even without it...OMG that would be the most awesome thing in the history of *ever*!

Hmm...y'know you have a fair point there. Something about ATF Ezra never quite did it for me (It's the clothing, I think. No red jacket. Or the hat - there's just no modern substitute for a riverboat)

In all seriousness, though, I agree with you. OW Ezra is a gambler and con-artist by choice, and a lawman by accident. That doesn't really come through in ATF.

This is a good way of encapsulating the difference between the two versions of Ezra. ::nods::

As I responded to Delphia, I prefer ATF Ezra. ::points down to comment::

I do see your point. I suppose it's a matter of preference - I like my characters a little morally grey and unreliable. To me, it makes them feel more real.
Besides, from the series I get the impression that Ezra doesn't give his loyalty lightly...but once you have it, you're stuck with it. (Heh. Or to put it another way: you could trust him with your life, just not your wallet)

(I popped over to see if you had written any new stories. I hope you don't mind but I'm friending you so I miss any. And I do enjoy the discussions ( ... )

You are totally welcome to friend me, thanks!! The fannish content from me is pretty sporadic these days (my RL is quite pleasingly overwhelming ATM) but when I do produce fannish content, you'll see it. :D

I absolutely *adore* ATF and yay!! I'm so glad to know there's another person who went looking for DVDs for the nonexistent show! :D Because seriously, if ever a TV show *deserved* to exist, Magnficent Seven: ATF would be it!

And I love your addition about Inez, because yeah, I can see that! And Ezra as well, though I'm not so sure he's all up on protecting Maude (he seems too exasperated by her and she's quite capable of protecting herself) but I could see that being an impetus to get into law.
