This person is a Mundane, you don't know him well cattraine June 24 2007, 03:22:33 UTC
if you show him anything make sure its gen. Remember, what we slashers consider erotica is considered pornography by most of the mainstream population.

A good point! Thanks!!

I can stick with the few gen stories, most of which are obscure enough that he probably won't want to read more anyway. :D

Actually this was the second request today. He gave me his card and I lost it and he gave it to me again on Friday.

I think your advice to give him the gen confusing one is good.

Though I think I'll start him off with the vaguely horrible original fic, because that might scare him off even worse. :D

Thanks!

we write fanfiction is one thing (that gets lots of weird looks as it is) but when you add that you write slash (and then have to *explain* slash) well, the looks go all weird. So in your case, I'd explain *first* that you write slash and then ask if he still wants to read it.

And may I stick my nose in here? Because the average, regular guy at Starbucks ain't gonna ask to read your fanfiction unless he's...you know...interested in you. :) It's not the kind of thing *men* would say. We women would, but men usually just nod and then move the conversation back to themselves. ::giggle:: So me thinks you've got someone interested in you, Sara! :)

I've already explained about fanfiction and he just seemed interested, which is a point in his favor.

I think I'll see if he's satisfied reading a couple of gen stories. If he clamors for more after that *then* I'll explain slash and see how he feels about some of the non-explicit stuff.

Oh, honestly I don't think so. I've watched him talking to other folks as well, and he's just real friendly, very sweet, interested in other people's lives. It's not just me he talks to like this.

He must be very special then! GO GIRL - can't wait to see his reaction. You might just hook us guy! LOL! Are you going to give him your TS or M7?

Well, I don't have much gen, but I think I'll start him with Aguas Profundas. If he can get beyond being confused by it, I think it's a good story. :D

I agree with Delphia - just "forget" to send him the links. If he's REALLY interested, he'll ask again, and THEN you can kind of explain lightly that they are not what he's likely to be expecting and fill him in a bit. It could go either way, but you'd want to tread real lightly. Peter knows I slash, and he's even read some of my really hardcore stuff...and he still speaks to me.

This is actually already his second request for them.

But I can possibly just sort of bowl him over with "Lullaby" which is strange and vaguely awful and "Aguas" which is long, creepy, and not going to make the slightest damned bit of sense if he doesn't know the canon.

If he survives those and wants more, then we can have the what is slash discussion and I'll throw him something pre-slash and see how he deals.

Hopefully a couple of kind of ick stories, with a huge dollop of WTF? will put him off.

Good suggestion, thanks!! I think that's what I've decided to do.

And my gen stuff is pretty obscure to someone who doesn't know the canon of the show involved, so it might keep him from wanting to ask for more. :D
