Blog the Vote 2008

So again with Chasing Ray She was suggesting that literary bloggers (which I would think I am more than any other category) write about why voting is important today. Here’s the master schedule. My posting schedule is irregular enough that I didn’t sign up to be an official part of the whole thing. [Update: I made the official list. Thanks, ( Read more... )

Weirdly, I appreciate her response. Whining, "but I never wanted him in office anyway" won't help much... but treating him like the president (including staying active on his policy issues, and advocating for your perspectives as if he is a rational and honorable man) might just do some good.

All that said, I am very glad to hear that Mr. FP is learning that voting is something that you do - and should do - every year.

Well, if you put it that way... but I think I was getting from her that once someone was president, you should treat him like a god and never question anything he does. I do have strong feelings about the election, but I'm going to be doing my fair share of complaining - probably through the proper channels, to the president as well as my friends - whoever is elected.

This year Mr. FP rode his trike to the polls, and cycled around the circle in the middle of the gym while I voted.

I must admit that one of the reasons I loved "The West Wing" so much was how fictitious characters playing Democrats and Republicans would argue with each other over bills and issues, and then cross party lines to work together. I would like to see that happen in real life. Smart leaders surround themselves with people who question and scrutinize their decisions. Even though I disagree with some of his positions, I am thrilled Obama is our new president, and will hold him to an even higher standard as a result.

That's a great voting story, by the way. Thanks for posting it.
