I pick up my comics every other week these days, and I'm not even close to working my way through the latest batch, but I figured I'd make a few comments over what I've been reading so far. Spoilers ahoy!
The art and coloring in the TFA issue didn't really ring with me, and I'm usually pretty happy with IDW's art quality. Story-wise I really don't know what to think of where they've taken Sentinel Prime to. I was really warming up to him in the cartoons after a bit, but after reading his bit in the comic...it's difficult unless I just overlook it entirely.
I may have to look over that issue again, I thought the 'old enough to remember the war' was directed at Ultra Magnus still....I could really be remembering wrongly though.
You wouldn't have seen the particular episode, but in one ep Sentinel freaks out because he's faced with Starscream. Optimus says "That's a Decepticon. Oh, that's right. You haven't seen one before."
As for Runaways, that's a shame. I'm quite fond of the writer of the series and I was looking forward to his take on Runaways.
he wants everything to be like it was when he was reading the comics as a kid.
Maybe this is aimed more at the writers that have indulging their Silver Age preferences lately? Okay, Green Lantern: Rebirth has lead to cool things, such as Sinestro Corp War, and looks likely to continue to do so (hurry up with Rage of the Red Lanterns already DC!), but then you have something like One More Day, where one guy's desire to wind back the clock is handled in pretty much the clumsiest way ever.
As for Runaways, I think the problem is too much effort into trying to sound young and hip and witty, instead of actually being young and hip (Moore is definitely witty, but...). The YouTube reference was particularly Narm-tastic.
I would not dare impinge on the quality of Moore's past works. Not my cuppa but everyone's tastes differ. Perhaps my point could be better put thusly: Moore can't write the dialogue of modern teenagers.

Well, looking over a few Geoff Johns interviews, I'm pretty sure that it's the fanboy attitude that's being poked at (he appears to agree with it when it's brought up). However, he does seem fond of the character, too. He talks about him being "super fun character to write" and appears sympathetic towards his treatment at the end of Crisis on Infinite Earths. Talking about the business in the Superman museum: "It's what makes Prime lose it when he discovers his big, monumental contribution to the history of the DC Universe ends with him being shoved in a broom closet. It’s a literal version of what happened to him last time he saved the universe and was pushed away." That makes me suspect that maybe he really will get redeemed.

I was pretty sure it was going to suck based on the initial art. THen I read reviews/synopses of some of the eps, and became even more convinced. But! I tried an issue anyway. I'm sure I didn't need that part of my soul.

Emphasis theirs.
Of course, this could still be explained by saying Sentinel Prime is lying out of his exhuast pipe.

and that just makes him worse if he is >< Oh goodness, I really hope the next one makes sense.

Well, you know, it's just a first issue, and I could be wrong.
The art is still a huge turn-off, though.

This one isn't screen shots. It's new art. Also, extra filler story.
It still sucks, though.
