Desertion Of the Dinobots Observation

May 24, 2008 23:39

This episode makes it very clear that the Dinobots are still being kept in the closet at this point in time, only letting them out when they need the Dinobots to go smash the Decepticons. Which makes it rather unshocking when Grimlock is surly over being given orders. Wheeljack, in response to Grimlock's obstinence, grumbles, "I have got to work on ( Read more... )

I could argue point #3--just because he sees work needs to be done re: their personalities doesn't mean that he was the one who wrote them in the first place. You don't need to be the chef to think the soup needs more salt.

Eh, maybe.

It still interests me that Wheeljack's first thought is, "These guys need to be reprogrammed," and not, "Gee, maybe we should stop storing these guys in a closet."

Extra food for thought--maybe they LIKE living in the closet.

As for why they are more sociable with Rodimus? "Cybertonium? CYBERTRON. Okay, we do it!" The bulk of S1/S2 has the Autobots on earth, but come S3 they spend most of it on Cybertron. Couple with Grimlock's dislike of humans, and you've got a serious case of organophobia.

I liked that the dinobots just sort of hung around deactivated until needed, like a secret weapon. Seeing them respond to the infiltration in Heavy Metal War is one of my best memories of watching the series when I was a kid. I always saw them as sort of sub-Transformers, especially after The Search for Alpha Trion. The impression I had was that Wheeljack was a super-genius for making thinking Transformers without Vector Sigma, but even so, he had limits and could only make the so good (even upgrading them later). What's the alternative to Wheeljack programming them? Him being a loving caring father follows about as much as Soundwave being a loving 'father' to his tapes. He does seem proud of them, but merely in terms of his own accomplishment in creating them ( ... )

1) Total agreement there, yup.

2) Hah, nice point!

3) ... where did *that* fanon come from? I mean, where do people think their programming came from?

I've run into some folks who think Wheeljack brought some personalities with him from Cybertron, like Starscream did the Combaticons.
