I'm trying to understand. What exactly did the Admiral tell you when you got this job, that made you think that doling out punishments for an Inmate that's not yours was ever the right thing to do? I'm not a pacifist -- most people that know me here would scoff at the very idea of me being one. The Inmates shouldn't have to get a disclaimer that they have anything to "fear" from you at any time. We're not here to scare them; we're here to help them.

And can I dispute for a second the term 'defenseless women' here? Because I seem to remember you saying something similar the night of the incident, and I'm completely baffled.

I don't regard any woman aboard this ship, inmate or warden, "helpless". I also don't think that a slight against a woman should permit any Warden to use special treatment. We are all here to do the same job, and it needs to be treated that way.

I agreed to come in order to follow my calling here. I will help inmates, ja. But when they harm another I see it as ineffective to lock them away when they clearly do not give any care to the pain they've caused.

It is not a disclaimer. I merely state that from now on, I function differently. That I follow another's guidelines rather than my own. That is all I mean.

Where I am from, women? Most of them are unable to defend themselves to any great capacity. I am one of few exceptions. And while defenseless men usually at least have sheer size on their side, most women do not have even that.

I have no ill will towards your inmate, you know. I would not be shocked to hear he has some against me and I would not blame him for such. But you may tell him I think his intent was very noble, if it pleases you.

It is up to that Inmate's Warden to effectively punish and educate them.

There's at least one Inmate that's still on the Barge that I've shot, so again it's not like I've never used force. But tell me for the sake of argument that you can at least see the difference between using violence to stop an Inmate when they're in the process of doing wrong and attacking one when they are already injured and incapacitated? Besides that you've been told now not to?

Although I do not agree with it completely, yes, I see the difference. The only difference is that now I keep to it despite disagreeing.

Where I come from, you'd have been locked up for that sort of behaviour. Nobody is above the law; I don't care who you're trying to protect! When you let emotions get wrapped up in enforcing the law, then you get sloppy. You make mistakes, and people wind up getting hurt for no reason except to satisfy your bloody ego!

You must come from an idealistic place, then, where comic-book burglars in their striped shirts are all you have to deal with.

Ego? I need no one to think I am good at what I do, and I do not do it to feel good about myself. Do you see me being praised now? If I seem self-satisfied to you then you mistake me, sir, you mistake me greatly.

Does Rose Tyler seem like a fighter to you? Do you think she could have gotten out with such slight damage had she been alone? Do not dodge these questions, answer each with yes or no.

Far from it. But I do come from a place where vigilantes such as you are not tolerated anymore than the baddies you knock around.

No, what I see is you boasting about assault and battery.

No, she doesn't, and-- as the person who was protecting her-- NO. And that has nothing to do with the situation, because Rose was already safely in the Infirmary and her Inmate was incapacitated by the time you went and IGNORED MY CALL FOR MEDICAL ATTENTION and made his injuries worse!

because she overheard about this from when Libby was bitching in the infirmary.... sapphic_hero June 24 2009, 00:09:11 UTC
Boasting and stating why I did what I did are two different things. This is not my first language and yet I seem to know that better than you.

Ah, you protected her, then? Were you also the man who left her alone with the man who harmed her further?

I ain't never feared you. And I reckon if I hadn't already been shot, you wouldn't have come into my room uninvited.

Had I been the one required to make you unhand her, I would have done the same in that situation as I actually did. The only difference is that the others here would see it as having been justified.

Technically, he's never said he doesn't also agree with your line of thinking. :P i_hate_posses June 24 2009, 00:33:21 UTC
Yeah, you reckon? Well, I tell you what, girly--

You ever try and touch me again and I'll break your fingers off.

If I am not the one who must make you stop a crime in progress, I will not lay hands on you. I have made that perfectly clear.

Too bad you'll never 'get along' with me while I am in control of myself, ja?

No. My first mistake was killing Brian Davis. Fixing a watch for Chandra Suresh. No, you'll only be another victim, another number.
