Hey Sophonisba, sorry to post an OT comment here but I've been writing a fairly long involved story for the SGA Big Bang and suddenly dawned on me that I've been heavily influenced by your thoughts on how Athosian marriages work. *meep!* Is it okay for me to use your idea? I will definitely give credit!

Hm, I've never read 'The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress' - maybe I should see if my library has a copy. I like books with unusual world building.

I read it and liked it a lot -- and, really, your menat isn't any more similar to my domos and thalamos than the general term "Athosian family commune" might suggest.

And I think TMiaHM is probably the third best book Heinlein ever wrote -- Panshin's probably right that the dropping percentages of success are a logically unsound way of heightening the tension, but the thing is, they work, and the ending never makes me fail to feel hurt and hoping at the same time.

(Besides, the cell structure kicks ass -- the only way I see it could fail to be perfect would be when somebody gets recruited a second time and therefore known to another set.)

This is awesome! I've never read the original book, but now I want to. I like how you take such a cracky (yet cool) concept and make it logical!

I adored the book when I was in second grade or thereabouts, in part because Senn went to quite reasonable efforts to make it internally logical (despite certain unsupported jumps that... well... are the equal of nearly anything in the Stargate franchise, really).

And honestly... DINOSAURS. ^_^
