2. All James White's Sector General novels wound up in the infirmary "waiting room." There is a persistent legend that nobody has even been able to finish Mind Changer in one sitting.

Sector General! I've managed to get a hold of only a couple of these, but the ones I've read were pretty awesome. I don't think Mind Changer was one of them. Is it mind-bendy, or just long?

14. Dr. Heightmeyer has been exhibiting her own symptoms of reality shear ever since, really, the end of the first year. Hers takes the form of refusing to believe in any apparently mental problems that cannot be solved by Tellurian psychiatric methods, and, eventually, in any apparent mental problems that are not the result of disorders or situations documented on Tellus.

I just watched Echoes, and couldn't help but think of this during Heightmeyer's session with Teyla - it was like they were having two completely different conversations.

20. Atlantis isn't perfect. It isn't always the best thing for its inhabitants. But while many of them could be happy ( ... )

In re: Mind Changer -- actually, that's more of an in-joke that of the people I know, nobody managed to read it all the way through in one sitting; we all found ourselves putting it down and doing something else or reading something else before we came back to it. (That's the one told from O'Mara's point of view, and has lots of flashbacks.)

And Sector General. If I were going around pointing out literary creations that just say good things about the human race, Sector General would not be least among them.

//I just watched Echoes, and couldn't help but think of this//

That's what really inspired it, actually; that and -- wouldn't that be a terrifying thing to happen? The base psychiatrist going round the bend (especially in a non-obvious way) has so much potential to fsck so many things up in a multitude of ways...

In re: #20 -- that is one of the things I get most from the show, so I had to put it in somewhere.

I read Mind-Changer in one sitting!

Probably not the first time through, though. God, that one's complex.

Me too! I read it just yesterday at work. (Boring, boring day. Everything closed for a city-wide holiday.)
