What's a blind-box toy?

It's when there are a lot of different little toys, but they're all sold in identical opaque little boxes, so you don't know which is inside which. This is very annoying. I mean, occasionally you like most of the toys in a collection, so you don't mind which you get, but it always seems to me like a cruel ploy by the toy manufacturers to make you buy far more than you would otherwise. A low-ish (not a given) price point doesn't even really help this.
