Night Watch (2004), Timur Bekmambetov. June 17, 9:00pm. View count: One.
Interesting. So, having seen this, the first installment in this universe, I can only come to the conclusion that the second one is an improvement. The tone in this one was more strongly 'dark', and not so playful. The conflicts were less personal, and the characters less well-defined. I like knowing the first part of the storyline, but I actually think the second movie did quite a good job of filling us in on what we needed to know about what happened.
The second movie was also higher budget, but that did translate to more general polish and not just more FX shots (which it did have).
Apparently there is to be a third movie; Twilight Watch. It's in production. I look forward to seeing what will be done (although IMDB says
it will be filmed in english. Uh oh). It also seems that these movies are based in some way on books, by a Sergei Lukyanenko. Hmm. I wonder if this need looking up.
