Barneys: Where the uptight and fabulous go to buy what the rest of us purchase at Target-but six months sooner, and with extra zeroes attached to the price tag. Where else would you go to buy a baby-size towel for $55?

Someone like Barneys' creative director has to be ruthlessly honest about this business, I suspect. The reason new bullshit sells is because the LAST phase of bullshit didn't work in making any of us skinny or lovely or successful. So we need new crap. It's the dynamic that keeps Taiwanese manufactures selling. And what's more fun than to make us do all this with truly awful stuff? The "art" for these artists is just exactly what Andy Warhol was always on about.

I knew I'd heard of the place, but when I searched for specifics in my head, there weren't any. I think of it as like a Macy's with bouncers or something. It would seem.
I imagine it is kind of neat to see people buying and wearing the shit you came up with. The POWER!
