a man with severe autism halfheartedly explaining human sexuality to a parrot

Hey, people and person-like constructs, I've I think finished my first series. I guess. I mean, I'm out of clayboard. Anyway, for the greater glory of Juffo-Wup, why not look at a couple of things I painted that are sort of accessible? Poorly composed, perhaps, but I stand by the sort-of-accessible part ( Read more... )

I think I draw that creature sometimes... maybe I will give him his own painting or something.

The blond girl/beast is perhaps the best composition and color use. I also love her hair, somehow. It's reminding me of some childrens' book illustrator and I can't put my finger on it. A bit like Maurice Sendak's "In the Night Kitchen", perhaps. Or "Outside Over There". Except I really didn't think it was Sendak I was remembering...Tell me, were YOU the inspiration for the large girl/small beast? Because you definitely belong in here somewhere...

I seriously have no idea where that hair came from; it's more or less my default geometric hair. There is probably something I am subconsciously ripping off, though.

Heh, chmmr said the same thing about the last painting. I don't know, I don't think any of them is me any more than anything I make is me in some way. I don't like doing deliberate self-portraits, so circumspect ones will have to do, I guess.

Aaw, why not self portraits? No better test of skill, if you ask me. Also you are your own most patient model.

Eh, it's too loaded. I don't like deciding what to emphasize or de-emphasize about myself, because of how much anything I do means. The best I can do is to abstract out almost everything, and it's less pressing then.
If someone else does a portrait of me, then it's their legitimate view, and that's fine. But I don't look at myself in the same way they do, and what's worse, pretty much everything I could do is badly cliched. Body issues!
I think I have a disconnect between me-external and me-internal.

I do not know what that would be, but okay! I'm glad you like them.

Those are pretty awesome. I just like the feeling I get out of looking at the "large girl and/or her small beast" and think the beast looks pretty terrific in the "another girl and her corresponding beast".

Thank you!
The red one, that one's beast is the pliers-headed guy I draw sometimes. I think I have three head-shapes (pliers, cone, dog/fox/mouse). Lame.

dog/fox/mouse? How are those similar? I guess a fox + pliers = dog, and fox + cone = mouse... anyhow... it's all in how you use it. The stuff you do do is still genuinely cool. And cool stuff is better than not cool stuff, in my opinion anyway.

Aww, thanks.
(I meant that the critter is sort of a hybrid, headshapewise, of dog, fox, mouse. Sort of. It's kind of vague.)

You've sculpted critters, have you not? These would be lots of fun in the round, methinks.

It's harder than I'd like it, but, yeah, I've tried sculpting things.
I think it might be neat to try some different materials; sculpey is sort of limiting.
