Food that is good

My darling sdwolfpup is going on a switchy diet. I like cooking and rather enjoy talking with people about food, so it seemed only natural to poke around and see if I could find any recipes that might work for this new diet of hers! I've attempted to arrange them by order of difficulty cooking. I have made the first four - the risotto and the curried shrimp ( Read more... )

Dried chickpeas soaked overnight and then cooked works fine - I wouldn't just soak and use them. (I use a pressure cooker, so it's easy for me, but it takes probably an hour and a half with a regular pot.) I love to eat hummus as a dip with raw veggies, especially carrots, which seem to really mesh flavors beautifully.

And I first read the name of the second recipe as "Garlic Rubber Chicken." :-) In the third, I see no roasted red pepper - red bells do take on a lovely flavor when roasted first (and they are yummy to add to hummus!) but I don't think you actually need to do so for this recipe, it looks fine as is, but, you know, truth in advertising. :-)

*laughs* This is why writing things down is key! My friend who gave me the recipe mentioned something about soaking the chickpeas back when I got it from him a month ago, but neglected to mention the cooking part of it. Thank god I am lazy and always use canned! Garlic Rubber Chicken either sounds like a practical joke that one might play on a teacher in grade school! Or possibly a bad sitcom gag - I can't quite decide which ... :o)

In the third, I see no roasted red pepper

... you know, it sounds fancier? *g* In all seriousness, we clipped that recipe from the newspaper back when I was in grade school and the incarnation that I just typed up from the recipe card has been modified so much that the original might have had roasted bell peppers, and I would never know! (And yet somehow the name stuck.) I think I am going to go back and modify that - thanks for the catch!

You are more than welcome! What can I say, this was actually really fun - I don't usually get an excuse to just spend time looking through my recipes. :-D

Mmmm, those recipes look delicious! It's never occurred to me to make my own hummus, but I guess it's just that easy! (That would be the slogan of your cooking show, if you had a cooking show. Start thinking of a possible title, 'kay?)

And the garlic chicken rub sounds delicious too, as does the beans and rice. I'm going to try some of these!

Side note: what kind of diet doesn't let you eat mushrooms?

Sansets Says! Cooking Fun Hour with Sansets! ... why is it that all of my names for possible cooking shows sound like the side results on a google search? I think I am just destined to have a cooking show with a sucky name. (But it really is Just That Easy! Maybe that is the real name for this cooking show)

Oh noes! If you make the beans and rice, know that I kind of screwed up when typing, and it is actually two TEASPOONS of Cajun seasoning, not TABLESPOONS. /0\ That would be oh so overwhelming on the spices! And the garlic rub chicken is kind of one of my favorite things ever. I was always in charge of dinner during high school and that was just so easy and yummy.

And I think that she is on some kind of a hypoallergenic diet, and since mushrooms are a common allergy, they are a no-no for the next six weeks. I think I would go stark raving looney with out them! I kind of love my fungus. *g*

I think that's a very respectable title for a cooking show. Although I do like, "Sansets Says!" too.

I will note the adjustment re: teaspoons :-) I was wondering about that one. And why were you responsible for the cooking during high school?

"I kind of love my fungus" is a LJ name waiting to happen!

And why were you responsible for the cooking during high school?

*giggles* Well, it was mostly self appointed. My dad is the adult in my family who can cook, but he travels a lot for his job. So after all of grade school and my mom alternating between tuna fish casserole and cereal for dinner, I decided that I would cook dinner, because I like to cook, and because one can only eat so many bowls of Cheerios before you want to throw the bowl at the wall! :-D

I concur! But I really feel that it must have wacky punctuation to be a truly proper lj name. "I love! My fungus!" "I love my fungus!" "I ... love my fungus?" The possibilities are endless!
