The contents of fashion magazines aimed at females are derided for promoting unhealthy body images, but what about the Anime and Manga Vital Statistics for Males? In Death Note, Light Yagumi is 5'9/179 and 119/54 and Mikami Teru is 6'0/185 and 123/56 which causes me to scream "Manorexic!;" I will not even begin my diatribe on bulimic L. On the other hand, people of Chinese and Japanese origin tend to be lighter boned and just narrower(in terms of bone structure) than Europeans, so they are noticeably thinner for their height.

When I worked at a clothing wearhouse for M+S, our shipments to Hong Kong had UK size 6 (US8) as the commonest size and we even had get the factory to make UK size 2 specially (I guess that would be a zero in US sizes). And when I worked at a lnguage crammer, I had the worst time taking Japanese 6th formers out to buy clothes at weekends, NOWHERE stocked clothes small enough for them. And they certainly weren't anorexic or trying to be thin; I used to watch them eat plates of noodles on top of their school meals.

Ignore the heights in Viz's translation of HTR. They truly fucked up the metric-to-ANSI conversion. Light's closer to 5'11". Gah, Viz needs to hire ME to do metric conversions. I wrote to them about it saying that someone screwed up. No response. (naturally I didn't mention I had a raw scan of HTR for comparison, eheh ( ... )
