I always had a fear about fire. Still do. My bro lives in Denver. I worry about him with the fires, you too. Damn fires, wish it would just pour down rain for 5 days straight for you all and put the fires out.
When I lived at home and had my pigs I had a backpack near their pen so I could toss them in there, just in case (easy carry out). Also a large storage bag of food in bad weather (like tornado season) ready in case I had to evacuate to the basement in the backpack and I had my mini fridge always packed with veggies I could stash in the backpack. I had some hay ready to go too, and some bottled water. So I could grab them, their food and stuff, and just go in under 3 minutes. Since they eat veggies they are easy to care for. Don't worry about them peeing/pooing anywhere just toss them in a bag and go.
I'm glad you're okay, I hope you had a good night. I am going to bed I have another long day tomorrow. Love ya!
That is good pig advice! I need to get a bin of food ready to take if need be. I keep a small carrier and a large tupperware (lol) in their room so I could nab them in a hurry. Fortunately, Laramie is not going to burn down this summer! But it's good to be prepared, especially with pigs.
Don't work too hard! Your eyeballs will fall out! D:
I don't know how feasible the 30-foot no-inflammable-stuff zone is for your place, but it might be a good idea to at least try to have it around the pigpen in case you're both out and find you cannot return.
The big scary fire was contained 100% this weekend, thank goodness. We had like 3 days of crazy-ass torrential rain, so that didn't hurt nothin'.
Thanks for that link, I will always keep an axe handy now by golly. :) And the pigs are fucked for the 30-foot thing. I have a box of hay in their room and some books. Ack. Ah well. They don't have to worry about wildfires now. Lucky bastards!
