from reappropriateVia Angry Asian Man, rumours have it (here's the article in Yahoo! News) that a relatively unknown Filipina actress named Meiling Melancon will be portraying a villainous Psylocke in the upcoming X3 film. the x movies have been perpetually
disappointing. i mean, storm.. storm...
that's really disgusting, more docility please?
the time line is off as far as ages with rogue
and the rest. as far as apia stuff, yeah
the passing as japanese for melacon is
just as disturbing as her hyper-exotified
white girl being in brown face character
she is being assigned. wordword.

it's so interesting (mortifying?) that i find issue with it on so many levels many of which seem to work at cross purposes. like on the one hand the x-man comic book fan purist hates the fuckery of the storylines and timeline, but on the other hand as a politically aware person (which i am quick to defensively note i wasn't back when i was a big comic book fan) i'm reminded of how awful the original storylines tended to be.

Good post. I've always found problems with the way asians generally and asian women in particular are represented in pop culture. They seriously get the shaft :(
Comic books pose problems for me on all sorts of levels - I can't read them at all without deconstructing everything and getting all pissed.
I'm always so torn - i.e. Sin City - yeah it's artistic but...
(my fave was the beautiful, perfect naked women with the impossible body begging that ugly scummy guy to satisfy her please! please! and he's like, no I don't want you!... never!... well, ok... It's like some guys' fantasies are SO GODDAMN PATHETIC to me and sorry I'm in a rambling mood tonight) arrrrrrrgggghhhh!!!! : /

i've never read the sin city books, although i've seen the movie!
