dear all knowing friends list (a la nine),

i know there are one or two books that could be considered the definitive american history book. i know there's a people's history by zinn but i'm actually looking for the more standard definitive one, you know, the one a right winger could conceivably read without going into a fit of apoplectic rage, ( Read more... )

Once upon a time I was a history major and trying to think of books you are asking about (I admit I don't fully understand the question) and trying to jog my memory on amazon.com when I was completely and utterly distracted by the fact that they are selling a HOME DEFIBRILLATOR. wtf?

just you know, a good american history book! hehe. along the lines of zinn's but probably less left. i realize less left in the case of zinn's book would just make it less accurate though hehe.

home defibrllator!! every household needs one! :o

do you need a license to actually work one of those things or is the fact that you read the instructions in the box good enough? :o

I'm with Zahyr's comment below.

yeah the home defibrillator scares me because I would probably kill someone trying to bring them back to life!

But there must be other mischief you can accomplish with it. Can you imagine some kids going after their poor dog with it?

The American Studies graduate in me says that there is no such thing as a definitive american history book.

::flails!::

[I have an idea of the sort of thing you're talking about, but the idea that something could be definitive/good and not send a right winger into a fit of rage boggles my mind just a bit.]

My AP US history book from the days of yore [6 years ago!] was actually not too bad but I can't remember its name. :(

hehe oh no! :P maybe it doesn't exist.

my AP US history book was pretty good too! i don't remember what it was but it was divided up into two parts and it was remarkable evenhanded about american's good and bad past. although i guess it probably offended some republicans because of that!

whatever it is, it's NOT "america, the glorious republic," which is what i got in 11th grade. i flunked the AP, anyway.
