I've been reading Milton for the past couple of days, in preparation for reading a great number of articles on Paradise Lost, and have concluded that Satan is just fantastic. Nope, nope, Satan's a bit more like a knight of the round table. He cannot give up his battle against god because it would be cowardly, and also false, because he still believes his cause to be righteous and himself pure. Besides, like C.S. Lewis, he believes that in one's own mind a heaven can be made of hell, or hell of heaven. I adore him. I'm researching his rhetoric, because, in the words of my professor, “Satan’s hot, “ and that seems to be rather opposite to the point Milton was trying to make.
