I just left a comment on the Yuletide page, but I feel compelled to tell you again how much I loved this.

Happy New Year to you too!

Thank you so much for reading! Yuletide is awesome because there are suddenly all these strangers in contact with each other creatively, but there will always be people whose opinions matter the most to me in these matters, and you are one. I'm really glad that Richard's voice and the filling in of those missing years rang true for you.

So delightful. Every time I forget how much I adore this world, these characters, I'm reminded by revisiting the books. Or the short stories, or the too-rare fanfics like this one. And then I'm overwhelmed by their fineness all over again.

You did such a good job of telling this part of their story, I couldn't help thinking, "Yes, it must have happened just that way." When I read The Privilege of the Sword last year, I avoided filling in these blanks mentally--it was too painful to imagine the scenes as you've described them. If anything, this story is more painful than I had anticipated. Thank you for being brave and skillful enough to tell it truly. ♥

Thank you, oh my gosh. I am so glad you read it! I was a bit surprised, actually, that I ended up writing this slow separation instead of some kind of escapist pre-blindness swordplay+witticisms+politics fic, since when I read TPOTS, I kept thinking "oh no, nooooo." But twisting the knife, that's me. I'm very happy that it rang true for you. <3

I will level with you: I've read about three Yuletide stories besides my own so far. Turns out the holiday season is very different experience once you're in the workforce. >:O

Also, I have not sent my cards! But I did get yours, which is beautiful! Thank you!

are hints of Blaise in your Alec

...CLEARLY. Especially one scene, I think. Not consciously, but they certainly live within one common archetype for me. *kisses, loves*
