I don't usually brag about my kid, or talk about her here much at all actually, but the other night when left alone for 45 minutes while I put the toddler to bed, she, entirely unprompted and on her own, wrote this

That's quite the composition! And spelled quite similar to the way my kid sound-spells words when we've done mad libs. :)
I haven't seen any poetry from my kid yet, but she did surprise me by writing "some times I like you and some times I do not like you" (mostly all caps, but amazingly spelled correctly) and put it on the wall. I thought it was quite insightful for a small child to realize that relationships are in fact more complex than just "I love/like you" or "I hate you".
I didn't need a translation. That is AWESOME. Where my kids went to first grade, they were of the few who went into first grade reading as public school only had half-day kindergarten. I sent them to an all day private kindergarten. Tiff's first book was a Dr. Seuss, See You at the Zoo, and I was absolutely thrilled to be with her when she read it for the first time. Missed that joy with my son who has always shared less. bah.
So this is beautiful. That she wanted to apologize, did it on her own, and sounded out so many words! That is BRILLIANT! BRAG AWAY!!!!! Brilliant? Accident? even Poking? That is amazing!
