No surgery for me

May 31, 2006 20:36

I saw the surgeon last night and he said that he would not recommend surgery right now. Usually, they do it if you have had 6 gall bladder attacks in a year's time. I've had only 3 in 18 months. I am relieved, although, I don't want to have another gall bladder attack ever again!

Oh girlfriend, I feel your pain. "Only 3 in 18 months" - HUH? I've had "only" 2 in my whole life and sheesh I never want to have another. Glad to hear you won't be needing surgery - and hoping along with you that you don't have any more attacks.

The first 2 that I had were minor compared to the one that I had in February. It was as bad as childbirth, but with continuous pain.

What sort of surgery would they have recommended otherwise?

Normally they to a laproscopic surgery to remove the gall bladder. But, he thought that with my size and weight that they would have to do major surgery with a fairly large incision and it would take several weeks of recovery and be much more risky. If I'd had more gall bladder attacks in the past year, he'd recommend that I lose more weight before operating. I'm still going to try to lose weight regardless and that might even eliminate the reason for the attacks in the first place.

I haven't had an attack but my MIL had hers taken out after witnessing her sister's. I'm relieved for you that you won't need an operation, they can be tricky things and best avoided when possible. Here's to no more attacks! :-)
