"I didn't mean to disturb you, if I did, sir," he said softly, holding up the plate with the bao and the carved fruit. "It's just silly things--I'm afraid I'm not as good at it as my sisters were, but I watched them do it enough that I remember some of the ways they used to, before the Japanese came. There are no others to celebrate the Magpie Festival, but I thought everyone could enjoy a little bit of home cooking."

He gave the boy that smile again, looking him up and down before shaking his head, long strands of hair waving to and fro, "Ah, no, you are not disturbing me. I needed a little excitement, honestly. Sometimes it gets rather boring in this place. And your cooking definitely brightens any day, no matter how dull. Would you care to come in, lad?"
