I've been plugging away at reading George Eliot's Middlemarch. It's very slow going and I'm not sure I'm going to make it all the way through. It's celebrated as a great novel for several reasons, including its portrayal of English rural and urban life at a time of change, with the Reform Bill and the arrival of the railways. I had a pleasant  Xmas day yesterday. Opened presents with Mum and Dad in the morning. The one's I'd given were appreciated, especially Dad's. I have a cold. Which isn't too surprising, as at D&D on Mon, five out of seven people present were laden with germs of some kind. Mind you, I usually manage not to pick up any plagues doing the rounds. My immune system has a few issues, but it's generally very good about seeing off colds. Got done some of what I intended to get done yesterday. Went into town in search of books. Waterstones are doing 3 for 2 on what seems like at least a third of their stock.
