Definitely check out Old Town! My boyfriend reccomends sea world and any of the fabulous beaches(personally, I like the beaches of Coronado). That's all we can really think of though. :)

Oh! Depending on when you're coming down, the Del Mar Faire will be open from June 8th until July 4th. :) You can check out the website here: http://www.sdfair.com/

unfortunately, reasonably priced living is incredibly hard to come by here in SD. you might get more helpful responses about areas if you give exactly what you're looking for - ie, 3 BR apt for under $1500/mo and if you have any other criteria, like close to downtown, close to the beach or close to public transportation, etc.

well i'm sure it can't be any worse than LA. haha. thank you though . i'm looking for 2 - 3 bedrooms .. anywhere in the area of $1200 - $1400 a month .. and proximity to the beach isn't that important .. neither is public transportation .. rental prices and crime rates are my main concerns.

thanks!

That's not really a bad goal then... You'll probably end up with a 2 bedroom, depending on how far from the center you're willing to go. Live in the 'burbs and you pay less rent here. San Diego is considered pretty safe, by city standards. Unless you have a desireable car. Then it might get stolen.

La Mesa is an often overlooked place to live. It's fairly suburban, has a large mall, is fairly commmute-friendly (from what I've heard, as I don't commute anywhere, but we're near most major freeways), is on the lower end of the price spectrum (we're paying just under $1300/mo for a large 3 bed/2bath), and has fairly low crime stats. It takes about 15 minutes to get to most of the popular destinations within San Diego - the zoo, Sea World, downtown, etc.

We're thinking about moving to La Mesa (hubby works in Santee). Where is this large 3 bedroom??? We pay close to that for a one bedroom downtown. :(

Park Grossmont, on Campina, nearest cross-streets are Severin/Amaya. Not sure that there are any three bedrooms available at the moment, but you can always check :) There IS at least one two bedroom available right now.

Any idea of what sort of industry you might work in? If you have a kid, you don't want to miss half his time at home stuck in a commute. If you think you will work in the tech industry, there is a good chance you will work in Sorrento Valley. Suburban areas like Mira Mesa, Poway, and Rancho Bernardo might be an option for you. They are not tourist spots, but you could wander around some of these for lunch to get a feel for the neighborhoods. The Poway school district is well-respected.

If you would be working in a bank, law firm, etc., downtown is a likely work spot. It's expensive to live downtown, but then La Mesa and some of the southern suburbs aren't too far away.

Other industries are scattered throughout various parts of the city, so it's harder to guess.

Nice. I have a friend who did travel nursing here. She said a lot of people she works with like to live in the Mission Valley area because it is central to many of the hospitals, providing a lot of flexibility. MV has a lot of newer apartments and condos, but there is something of a lack of schools as of yet.
