she says that obstetrics is not a good for a birth. that they are taught that birth is a problem and that they need to be there and solve it all.that birth is not a natural event that can progress itself. That they are needed to make birth possible with drugs and all. she was very much against having a birth in a hospital with an obsterician. I think some proably are not good yet, that does not discredit the good ones.

I think that's a pretty severe statement form the book. We're not 200 years removed from birth being a VERY severe probelm, right? I mean there's a REASON so many of our literary orphans Moms died in labor. Women were dying in DROVES.
Anything that becomes systematic becomes too rigid for the problem at hand, but these things naturally correct themselves. That's why there was such a big push for natural childbirth and Lamaze in the 70's.

To me it's like saying surgery is bad because we as Americans have all together too muchy surgery...does that make sense?

Birth can be a problem. Yet, if you do not make interventions(if there are no complications that is) and just let birth happen then there has been found that there is less problems. Women did die and still continue to die in chidbirth. Yet, there are many who do because of things that we cannot help, high blood pressure, poor nutrition.(which can cause hemorrhage)
You have it. If we let birth just happen there are proven to be less problems. If we intervene it has been proven we can make the situation even worse then it already was.

I know surgery is not a bad thing I just think it is an over used thing. That many women could have been spared having a C-section for a normal birth if they were given more time to give birth. Some hospitals only give mom's a maximine of 12 hours to have their babies. That is not usually enough time for a mom, especially a first time one. Well, any how I could go on for hours on this. I will end here.
