A visitor, a visitor!

Ooh ooh ooh, I'm not just excited, I'm hyper-excited. kyra_ojosverdes is going to be visiting the Seattle area next week!

For those who don't know who she is yet, I admire this person from afar, almost to the point of groveling at her feet in self-abasing worship. OK, lest I embarrass her as well as myself, let me pick myself up and explain:

She has a sharp mind and a sharp wit. An open mind, as well, and a progressive viewpoint. Her posts are some of my favorite to read. When she expresses a contrary view in comments, she does so with both clarity and respect.

She can write software, and she can operate power tools.

She has three kids, who are wickedly intelligent as well, and creative and funny, and--even more impressive--who know how to think, have a firm grasp of morality, and can express themselves in a fashion far more adult than many adults. I'm repeatedly bowled over by some of the things they say, as quoted on Kyra's journal. They also have their own journals, incidentally. I am inclined to attribute much of their wisdom to the guidance of their mother, who raises them pretty much on her own, and always seeks to teach them with honesty.

She manages to support them and herself on a shoestring budget, having elected to work for WORD, one of those organizations that is devoted to doing good deeds rather than making pots of money. Even when struggling to make ends meet, she will gladly give away her last dime to support a friend who needs it.

All this, and she's also devastatingly gorgeous. Brain, body, heart and soul--she's a keeper no matter how you measure.

She's a 90% match for me on OKCupid.

She also offered to marry me once, and I'll never let her forget it.

She lives in Missoula, MT, which is way too damn far away. I swore off the long-distance relationship thing years ago, promised myself I'd never go through it again. But she tempts me to reconsider that decision.

I've never met her in person before. I'd been planning for some time to drive, or maybe fly, down to Missoula and fix that, but it had been looking like the soonest that could happen is August. To my utter delight, she decided to visit us here. She'll be about for a week (staying with senssuzy and I for a couple of those nights), and you'd be silly not to want to meet her. Though I expect she'll want to spend some of that time alone, and some of it hanging out with people she already knows, she has also expressed an interest in meeting some new folks.

Any good parties going on next week that she should know about?
