Welcome to the world on non-profit funding! Your family has taken a huge step in leaving a legacy for future generations and while that may sound cheesy to some, is 100% heart felt.

Typing as a non-profit board member and a professional non-profit fundraiser: Thank you. You now carry the responsability of a mission and stewarding that mission will/has become a big part of your life.

Several of your board members seem interested in funding the education of urban at-risk youth. Should you ever consider funding localized in Seattle, please let me know. I have had the honor of being involved with several wonderful organization that have a mission to serve marginalized/at-risk youth through traditional, experience based, and motivational educational methods.

Again, Thank you. The world needs more family foundations to further mission-based work!

I am interested in Seattle area programs, such as Solid Ground's Lettuce Link. Perhaps you could email me (senssuzy@yahoo.com) with names of local programs you've worked with, and I will check them out. Thanks.

One day, Tim and I would like to do something like this, or maybe set up a recurring scholarship. What kind of initial investment is required?

I don't know a lot of the specifics, but--figure on paying out 5% of the organization's holdings each year, which you then have to put back somehow if you want to keep it from shrinking. Of course there is also some overhead to get everything set up.
