If you are a fan of New York City, then DC will seem boring. I hate NYC, yet love and live in the DC area. It's a city, yet still livable. You're not swallowed up by skyscrapers and masses of humanity at every turn. A very green city, certain parts almost deserted on weekends. Most people live in the suburbs and work in the city. Lots of parks, beautiful monuments and history. The Capitol building is beautiful, esp. at night. If you visit the Lincoln Memorial and feel no emotion, then you should not call America your home. So, it's really a matter of preference. I live in Arlington, VA, about five minutes outside of DC. Every night, I stare at this view from my balcony and breathe in the spirit of democracy. Sorry, I have no similar feelings walking the chaotic and crowded streets of NYC.

Love the view. Actually just couple of years ago I visited Arlington for the first time and loved the view from Iwo Jima memorial.

Thanks! I love it also. I pass the Iwo Jima Memorial everyday on my way to work. This morning, young Marines were doing military exercises there. Nice entertainment to watch while sitting in horrible DC traffic. :)

The best view of marine exercises for me is still watching Navy Seal training while sipping cocktails during sunset on a beach in San Diego.

Yeah, I love San Diego also. A very laid back and beautiful city, esp. on the waterfront. I used to work for the airlines and traveled there a lot.

I worked for United Airlines for five years after I graduated university. Now I'm a boring lawyer, but still make time to travel all over the world. :) Including many trips to Russia, former Soviet bloc countries and the Baltic States. You can see all the stories and photos on my blog if you're interested.
