Rant and prompts

Hi guys,

I haven't really been posting lately, I know, but after that last fic I just... I dunno.
I was thinking about my next story, and the thing is, I don't WANT to write a next story.
Bunnies I've got. And they keep on coming (*mental note - add the two xover bunnies to the list*), but the thing is, people seemed to have stopped reading gen fics. ( Read more... )

Hmmm, how about Dean joins the French Foreign Legion? I'd so read that (and maybe, just maybe imagine Jensen Ackles in a military uniform the whole way though).

Hope you'll like it. Here it is:

"Play fair, own an umbrella..."
"Hey, I have an umbrella!"
"I said own an umbrella, not just lift one from a lost and found box," Sam said. Dean shrugged ( ... )

*gigglesnort* Oh Dean. You always have such a perfect way of capturing him.

I know how it sucks when no one is reviewing your work (I just posted a bigbang fic and the art/mix got more reviews). But you rock okay. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I've always enjoyed your work. I know I'm guilty of not commenting or reviewing everything I read, but I want you to know I do enjoy your work and I do keep an eye out for new things you post.

It might not be that "nobody's reading gen" - readership does seem to drop off somewhat during the summer, but the audience is out there. Summergen got a huge response (96?), and I know folks are looking. It could be that the readers are looking for particular *types* of gen stories, and you just haven't hit on what they're looking for at the moment. Don't let it discourage you! Take a break, do some fun summer things, and come back when you feel refreshed. It's absolutely true: if you try to force the writing, it will come out crappy. Wait until there's a story you *need* to tell. The magic of that will come through in the words.

Good luck! *pats you on the back*

That actually makes me feel worse =(
It's not that the readers aren't there, it's that I'm not interesting enough for them to read.
I know it's not what you meant to say, I know you were trying to make me feel better, but I believe I'm good enough. I've written stuff in the past that was awesome, or at least I thought it was. I see a couple of my stories get recced from time to time.
But these last few months? Crickets. Not even my usual commenters.
Maybe I did lose it. *hides under a rock*

Where in there did I say you weren't good enough?

What I'm saying is, the readers could be looking for S4-oriented stories and you were posting earlier-season-focused stuff. Or the other way around. Or they were in the mood for lighthearted stuff and you posted heavier stories. Or they wanted bromance and you posted something else. It's not a question of whether the story kicks ass or not - if it's not what they're in the mood to read, they'll ignore it. It's not your fault. 'K?

I guess.

I'm not gonna try so hard anymore though. I'm letting my muse go. If she feels like dropping in for a visit, great. If not, I'm not sure I care anymore.
