I suggest writing a private letter on your capabilities and how much money they would save since um.. you've practically been training for a year. Bring up how you already know this, know that, how your boss had depended you on this.. that and blah

First, let me say - Way to go! Second, I'm not sure it'll work in my case. Apparently, they want to make "rearrangements" in our department, and not let anyone take over for her. Last I heard, they were interviewing a guy with no experience, so there's no way he could take over for her. Second, she had a Master's in pharmacology, and I just have a BA in biochem. But still, she used to let me do a bunch of stuff on her own, and now I can't do anything on my own. Her boss, which is now my boss, demandes to have his signature on anything before I start working, so... I dunno. Things stay this way longer than a couple of months, I'm looking for someplace else.
oh.. so you sold your soul and now you really are paying the price in Hell. I hate that feeling of not being able to prevent things from going downhill.
