first day of school!

DD survived her first day of school without undue trauma. The teacher, who looks astonishingly young to me, seems pleasant but effective so far and the journey there in the morning seems to work - although I can imagine it being a lot less fun when it is dark in the winter. Congratulations on a good first day of school!

My younger daughter and I recently ran into her kindergarten teacher at the grocery store. She rolled her eyes as both the teacher and I recalled her famous line at the end of the first day. "I get to sit up front with all the other fun kids!"

It is awful when teachers recognise you at that age. You feel so grown up and adult and metamorphosed and they just see your four year old self clear as day. sigh!

Like that opening line though. All the intresting kids sit up the front.

I'm glad for you all that the first day went well. I was surprised when I dropped off littly for the first time by how emotional I got about it even after years of reassuring parents myself in the classroom! It does get easier and before you know it they're off without even a backward glance or kiss goodbye.

I'll be happy so long as she goes without tears and howling. I had enough of that last year. I am crossing fingers so hard that she finds her niche in the class alright and that it isn't class-outsider-smart-alec like I was. At least she is entering and leaving smiling which is more than can be said for a couple of the boys.
