If Gordon Brown wants to have a general election in 2007, he really needs to go and see the Queen tomorrow. Why? Tomorrow is the last day he can call an election for October 25th. Speculation from those that seem to know has always been November. Clock changes, daylight times and electoral registers not being ready yet are apparently of less concern, although they may be used to hit him a bit.

This will make visiting the Queen today a little difficult. But enough people still seem to be seriously talking about Nov 1 or 8 that I'm not ready to dismiss them.

What's the relative effect of daylight likely to be on Labour and SNP voters likely to be in Scotland? They may be less concerned about problems with the labour vote in England than they are about suppressing the SNP (and LibDem) vote in Scotland...

Just based on sociodemography, I'd be pretty certain that LibDem voters in Scotland are much more likely than Labour voters to vote in a low-turnout election, and SNP supporters slightly so, especially in the North East of Scotland where the daylight issue is at its most acute.
