She offered him a compass that would point to the thing he wanted most if he would only set her free. He had had her whipped and thought no more of the matter. - Dramatic, and totally heart-stopping. You really know how to connect with Beckett, and I think that illustrating his behavior is one of your strengths.
In that moment of shocking clarity, the stories were no longer the lore of the sea. They became Beckett’s way ahead. - You always manage to end on such a strong note. I'm sure mary684 will be pleased! :) :)

Wow and wow again! How BRILLIANT that he would meet Tia and she would offer him the compass and he would refuse ONLY to have it turn up on Jack's person! Oh, how that must had Utterly Rankled Him! Bah! I love it!
I like how he's raw and a sort of 'self-proclaimed' man of the world, not believing any of these foolish stories nor really understanding what it is to be a sailor -- it's all So Beneath Him. And his moment of 'shocking clarity' when he sees how it all can serve to better his position -- ooo, man! You are good. He's almost too evil.
Okay, I'm beginning to really like him now. *g* There's something really devious in him that bears further investigation. Every time you scratch the surface of him, I find something new to enjoy, if not admire.

Also, I just can't say how thrilled I am that I might be making a Beckett fan out of you *g* The little Lord is always in need of admirers...or recruits for his world domination tour. LOL.

And (as you can probably tell), I love me some Beckett, especially because he is such a good villain.
Thanks for reading!
