From the prompts at potc100 Title: Alone Rating: PG (overtones of death) Word Count: 100 Characters: Elizabeth, Will Disclaimer: Characters belong to the Mouse! Summary: Response to the prompt 'What if?'--What if Will had died on the Dutchman?
Maybe the movie was really happier than we thought? ;-)
As for the drabble itself - I've wondered that a few times myself. I wonder if Elizabeth would ever speak to Jack again; if Will would serve aboard the Dutchman with Jack; or if in some improbable way, Jack DIDN'T stab the heart, and if he has to serve Jones now.
And I think that while it would take a hard toll on Elizabeth, she is resilient and would eventually do well for herself, whatever she chose. And I think that ties would be severed with Jack--I don't think she could ever forgive him. Through it all, she always thought he was a 'good man' underneath it all and letting Will die, while he obtained immortality, would directly contravene that ideal. At least, that's what I think, whatever that's worth *g*
a widow before she was a bride I'll agree with VR, this is the best line ever and a great call back to DMC and the dress which belonged to "The ghost of a lady, widowed before her marriage". I also love: The shadows seemed to take his familiar shape which reads as both eerie and strangely comforting.
Awww - in amongst all that jolly swash buckling, Elizabeth does get a bit of a rough deal (or at least a potentially rough deal). This was a powerful little drabble - good show!

Best line ever. That's going to hurt.

Very sad, yes, but very good stuff.
