Girl: What stopped you?

Herbs: How do you dry your herbs? Do you have a special gadget for it? My basil is still going strong in our garden. I'd like to dry some, but I haven't the faintest idea how to approach this.

What stopped you? This is a long answer and one I am still struggling with. No doubt a post later on.

I use the box fan method with cheap furnace filters. I layer the herbs in between the filters (usually two herb layers with three filters), tie them together and then tie them to a box fan, making sure the airflow is the correct way through the filters. Set on high. Most herbs will dry in 24-48 hours. Bonus: the house smells wonderful. I used to drive Tigger the Wonderful Thing crazy with catmint! She'd go around with her nose in the air and a lolcat grin on her face. I'm sure she was thinking, "I live in the best house ever!"
