Big Red! Or should I say Bright Red?

Dec 04, 2006 15:21

I've been bored and restless so I've been on an icon making spree. My next post will be another Panic! one, but until that one is up I made an icon tutorial...

Going from
to

o1. Get your base ready, but don't sharpen it.

o2. Create a curves layer and enter the following settings:
Input: 95
Output: 140

o3. Create a new layer and flood fill it with #5B96E8, set it to Soft Light @ 100%.

o4. Create a new layer and flood fill it with #96BEDA, set it to Soft Light @ 100%.

o5. Create a new layer and flood fill it with #E6D6C5, set it to Multiply @ 100%.

o6. Create a Hue/Saturation layer and enter the following settings:
MASTER: 0, 40, 0
REDS: 0, 20, 0

o7. Create a new layer and flood fill it with #C0BCBC, set it to Color Burn @ 65%.

o8. Duplicate your base, drag it to the top and set it to Overlay @ 100%. Sharpen it and add any text, textures or brushes you want and you're done!

This technique is especially good for icons with red in them and emphasizing that color, along with brightening skin tones and bringing out contrast.

And, like I said, there will be another Panic! post and then probably another tutorial and then... who knows? Bye guys!
