Summary: Good thing prizewinning reporter Jim Qwilleran has his extraordinary Siamese cats Koko and Yum Yum to smell trouble from a mile away...

The town of Pickax is buzzing with excitement: its residents are about to celebrate the 150th anniversary of its founding. But in the midst of all the preparations, Qwill has to take time out to entertain aspiring architect Harvey Ledfield - and deal with Koko's strange new habit. Because the Siamese star has started dropping from balconies and landing in the oddest of places, including on Harvey's head! And now that Harvey's aunt and uncle have mysteriously gone missing, Qwill better brush up on his paw language before Pickax is hit with a bombshell...

My Thoughts: My mom got me this book for Easter, she's a cat lover (specifically Siamese) who has read several of these books, and thought that she should introduce the books to her cat lover daughter. She describes the books as potato chip books. A light snack for the brain. A quick, easy read that doesn't require a lot of thought. She was right.

The first problem I had with the book was that, while not part of a linear series, it is part of a series and this one was just the latest in it. That made it slightly difficult to follow sometimes because Braun writes assuming that you've read several, if not all the books prior to this one so your familiar with the characters and places. It was especially apparant in the beginning and made it off-putting.

There also wasn't too much of a clear plot or mystery going on. I was confused about what the focus of the novel was supposed to be on. Was it the parades? The Ledfields? Harvey? I still don't really know. Even those were just touched upon, brushed by, so you don't really end up caring or getting involved.

I did like the mention of cats throughout the novel, but it became a little much, even for a cat lover like me. In the end I would still like to pick up some of her other books and see if there's a little more going on than in this book. Since this is the latest one, Braun might have been stretching and getting tired out, you never know. So, we'll see, if the books change or are pretty much the same in substance and plot. If you've read any of the other books and this one as well, let me know what you think.
