ah, now I only wish more family of Bard people were involved. the twin in question was actually Katy (I believe the spelling is), twin of Emily.

John was sure she wasn't her, and I was sure she looked startlingly like her, and we were both right.

I know what you mean by "vegan shoe store," but as my first impulse is to think of the culinary aspects of veganism, rather than the larger activist aspects, I had a vision of cinema's beloved Little Tramp, trapped in the frozen wilds of Alaska and slurping down the shoelaces of his vegan shoe like so much gluten-free organic eggless spaghetti.
