I'm so glad you liked it. I was afraid that the pool game would be too cliched, but that first scene was the one that I saw most clearly so it had to go in. *grin*
I love the "Always trust Carter" bit as well, and the fact that Jack totally would (and does) bet his life on her day after day. I like it taking her a bit to realize that he's NOT taking her for granted, it's just that he has that much faith in her. Really nice parallel with the pool, the betting, and the situation on the planet. Well done!
This was a lot of fun. The pressure Sam has on her shoulders at the SGC is one of my favorite things to explore, and it was nice here to see her realize how much faith her CO has in her. He really does, as Amy says, bet his (and Daniel's and Teal'c's and sometimes the whole planet's) life on her every day, and you've got to think it irks Sam every once in a while to be expected to pull a dozen impossible things out of her ass before breakfast. The story also has a nice feel of team closeness, with the middle section showing how well they know each other and take care of each other. And it reads more like a fourth-season Sam than like a late-season Sam, leaving me to wonder (in a good way) what she thinks of the trust and the expectations now.
I tend to write things in the fourth/early fifth season, after that I don't feel that I have as good a grasp on Sam's character. Oddly enough, of all the team, Sam is the hardest for me to write but I think I have a decent enough image of her in those episodes.
The problem with Sam, as I see it, is that she puts more pressure on herself than the others do. Sam sees not being able to do things as a personal failure, whereas Jack knows that, if Sam can't do it, nothing would be able to save them. Like I said through, Sam is the hardest character for me to write and I'm not sure how that would change in the later seasons.
Love the setup with the pool match and Sam misinterpreting Jack's confidence in her; the mission and the 'Always trust Carter' a really nice way for the lightbulb to click in her head about it and the pool match at the end brings it nicely full circle - really beautiful plotting. I enjoyed it very much.

It certainly should be!
Thank you so much for writing such a lovely story. It was great to see the team off duty, and to see Sam kicking ass in pool.
