Three days into a seven day trip: an out of town meeting for Mike that they decided to turn into an impromptu vacation. Their cabin was situated on a lake in Washington state, and the setting was idyllic.
The moonlight reflected on the lake, and there were more stars visible in the sky than they would ever see in L.A.
Jane slid past the girls’ room to see if they were asleep, but heard their voices from inside.
“Can I be on top this time?” Sam queried.
“You were on top last time,” Brooke countered. “It’s my turn.”
“But you’re always on top.”
Jane just shook her head, and walked away from the conversation.
“Those girls could argue about anything,” she told Mike a few moments later. He just grinned at her over the screen of his laptop. “They were arguing about who got the top bunk,” she rolled her eyes.
A curious look passed over Mike’s features. “Huh. I didn’t think their room had bunk beds...”
