drabble: the day before the day

“Sam,” Brooke began, “being with you has changed my life.  I used to be so afraid-so worried about what other people thought of me.  Loving you has made me stronger and braver than I ever thought I could be.  You’ve helped me become the person I always wanted to be.

“For some reason,” she chuckled, “you insist that you’re the lucky one-constantly amazed because you think I picked you above hordes of more deserving candidates.

“Nothing could be farther from the truth.  You’ve brought out the best in me, Sammy, and for the rest of our lives I will aspire to deserve you...”

She looked over what she had written.  Not bad.  Not perfect, but she was on the right track.  She wasn’t the wordsmith of the family, anyway.  That was her fiancée.

Her fiancée, she smiled.  Until tomorrow.  Then tomorrow she would say these words in front of their family and friends, and they would make it official.

Two years to the day.

Just like Sammy promised...
