Well, I didn't whole-heartedly approve of Ulquiorra and Orihime from Bleach being a couple during the whole KIDNAPPED ORIHIME plot. I just don't like the fandom's general treatment with their relationship and how they turn it into something it isn't ( Read more... )

It's the damsel in distress thing that has prevented me from adoring Orihime as a character. I think she's very cute, but the damsel in distress thing gets old fast.

It does. I was annoyed with the fact that Rukia was stuck in her own damsel in distress plot, too. The only exception is that Rukia, other than that plot, is nowhere near as helpless as Orihime comes off.

It's unfortunate because the Bleach artist/writer is really terrible when it comes with major female characters. Like, his minor ones, like Tatsuki? Awesome and they should be seen more often. The others, like Orihime? Not so much.

*nods* Well, Rukia's is at least more understandable when they explain HOW she got into that state and that she had broken rules and so on. She gets to go on to kick ass and take names later on.

Orihime's abilities should in theory make her one of the most powerful people in the entire Bleach universe. She's a reality warper. That whole "I reject!" thing? Yeah. In theory, she should be capable of pwning Aizen.

Rukia's situation made a lot more sense, yeah. Orihime ... I don't even want to imagine how many time she's been placed in situations where the men had to rescue her. It's like, every time I see her get in trouble I think, "Oh, here we go. Another life-threatening situation for Orihime. Big fucking surprise. :|" I love her, but the writer refusing to do anything with her character other than cry out Ichigo's names during battles pisses me off. It pisses me off because Orihime is capable of kicking ass by herself rather than standing by the sidelines, yet we haven't seen her accomplish any of this. She's supposed to be a pacifist, I guess, which I do empathize with, but even Chad gets to fight, and he doesn't like fighting people.

I hope that made sense. I got no sleep last night - literally 0 hours - and I have an essay to write, ugh.

Oh, and also? Orihime not only needs to be more independent, she also needs to forget about Ichigo. And then go run away with Ishida. He's the only one I can really tolerate her getting together with ( ... )
