So... about diabetes...

Sweet-smelling urine, I haz it. I'm calling to get a test set up asap, but I checked my blood sugar after a nearly 16 hour interval between dinner and getting up, and it was 108.

I think that, like Allan, I can control it with glucophage and exercise and eating right. But it's going to be a hard adjustment.

I've had it for years. I'm pre-diabetic but not diabetic yet. Have to keep reminding myself why I need to make cutting down on sugar a huge priority, and also losing weight.

I had this revelation in August but the urgency slipped away in the last two months. thank you for reminding me.

Best wishes for your own health!

Yeah, I was like, this is going to be a disaster because I can't diet.Turns out I just never wanted to eat right badly enough, because "I'm healthy." When I think "I want to keep my feet, my kidneys and my eyes," I don't crave sugars *at all*. So, remember why and you'll be okay. ::hugs::

I don't know how bad 108 would be. What is the normal reading? I believe it should be about 6 or 8 here so I very much suspect you're on another scale. I understand the meaning of "glucophage" but is it a drug or a groups of foods that "eat sugar"?

A drug, and I think that it actually makes it easier for your body cells to uptake the sugar.

90 is considered the low end of "prediabetic" in other words, under 90 and your body is handling sugar and insulin just fine. Above it, you've at least started developing insulin resistance. I went more than 12 hours without food, though, so at 12 hours, it would maybe have been higher, like 120-- and that would definitely be diabetic.

It sounds as if your scale is 10 times ours. (Ooh, I love your layout!) I just had a hypo attack so I have the opposite problem; I went for lunch an hour late and suddenly (there's never any warning) got spots in front of my eyes and confused thinking, so I'm back in the office with 1/2 tsp sugar in my coffee; I usually don't take any. The doctor told me to carry jelly beans and I keep doing out without the bastards. :-P
