Although any day spent on the Valiant was a tiring day, they were becoming harder and harder to deal with as time went on. The Doctor spent most of his days just quietly working on lacing himself into the Archangel Network. On occasion, Lucy found herself craving the companionship of others. She'd never admit it to herself, not as such, but with her husband spending less and less time with her and more and more with the Doctor, Mrs. Saxon was slowly beginning to unravel, piece by piece. None of the soldiers on the Valiant spoke to her (by her husband's orders, she'd discovered), the Jones family was under constant supervision and all the others had been either killed or kicked off long ago ( ... )

The Doctor was surprised to see Lucy of all people. Not that he didn't see her sometimes, of course, considering the limited number of people with access to him. But nine times out of ten, when he saw her she was hanging off the Master's arm or trailing just behind him. Bringing him lunch was something new entirely.

So he sat up, putting aside his mental work for now to give this puzzling situation his focus.

"Oh, really? Thank you." There was a pause before he asked. "Why?"

"Does it matter?" she snapped, setting the tray down on the long table in the centre of the room, leaning against the edge of it and giving him an imperious glare. "I can come and go as I please. I have that freedom. You shouldn't question me when I decide to use is for your benefit."

She did not move, though her fingers twitched, clenching painfully against the table. "I see he's let you retain your youth this time."

"Guess you're right," the Doctor agreed. Though really, he was agreeing to save an argument. This curious turn warranted further investigation. And anyway, he was hungry.

He glanced over the food. Sandwich, soup and some crisps. She'd probably made it herself, then. He plucked up the sandwich, eating it slowly. "Mm, he aged me down again a few days ago," the Doctor explained. "Didn't really say why. His mood, I suppose."
