Writers are pathetically grateful for any sort of positive comment - even if it's from your daughter's teacher. It must be because it's such a solitary occupation.

I suspect you're far from the only parent to help their child out in this manner either. Think of it as an equalising process.

It was absolutely positively done in self defense. I swear. It's like when I had my first driving lesson, which took place in a car fitted out with a second steering wheel, brake, and accelerator. For the teacher. Eventually I realized that the instructor was giving the car extra gas. "Someone's got to make this thing go," he said.
