Pairings and ratings all in that order
o1. hello, doctor?
Taemin leaned against the bathroom door with all of his weight, pushed on his toes, and tugged at the doorknob with slippery fingers. "Jinki-hyung!" he shouted into the wood, loud enough for his voice to strain and crack. "Let me in already!"
"Wait-- no!" the warbled reply was, and the anxious tone added to Taemin's growing anger. "I really mean it, Taemin-ah, please don't come in yet!"
The younger boy, huffed and nearly ready to explode, gave up in his efforts, hands then dropping to his hips. He stuck his tongue out and swiped it along his lip slowly, as thoughts ran through his mind vividly. What Jinki was doing in the bathroom was obviously beyond him, and he hated when things were far from his reach. He wasn't the vertically challenged one, after all.
"Hyung, I'm giving you five seconds. One."
Jinki sighed from the other side. "Okay, that's not fair. You give me five seconds to prepare, but it'll only take one for you to react--"
"--five."
Taemin shoved the door hard, surprised to see it fling open with no difficulty. However the sight before him was far more repulsive, shocking, altogether scarring for the boy, than anything else -- which, in all truth, was a lot -- he had seen in the dorms.
"Flounder!" Taemin screeched, and under his breath, Jinki groaned, "Oh God."
Stumbling, Taemin was soon on his knees, cradling the half empty fish bowl in his arms. Tears began to well up in his eyes as the water sloshed around in his tight, frantic jerks, side to side, of "Why, hyung, why?"s. The singer chose to remain silent as Taemin picked up the bottles of fish food and the thermometer that had been scattered along the floor. With watery eyes, the boy looked up at Jinki, the wobbly sobs tumbling from tight lips.
"He went, uh," Jinki stammered as he stared at a particular spot on the floor with as much interest as he could muster, "went belly--"
"I don't want to hear it," whined the boy as he placed the bowl between his legs and covered his ears with wet hands. His hair stuck to the sides of his face, stained with tears that clung to his eye lashes. "We only got him five days ago!"
Jinki breathed sharply through clenched teeth. "Taemin-ah, I'm really sorry." He rubbed his hand up and down the dancer's back in a comforting manner, hoping that he would miss the fact that he was wearing latex gloves that were slightly damp from his mishaps. Taemin chose to ignore the growing wet line on his back.
"Hyung, what am I gonna do? Kibum-hyung's going to kill me when he gets home."
Bracing himself, the older boy leaned forward and kissed the trembling mess lightly on the cheek, brushing away the watery tears with his dry lips. The hiccuping stopped as he pressed a bit harder against the soft skin.
"We could always buy a new one." Jinki knew that this only happened in the cartoons that he watched with the younger boy, but when Taemin pushed himself away from Jinki, eyes wide and calculating, he gulped.
"Hyung, grab five dollars from Minho-hyung's bag. We're going shopping." Taemin jumped onto his feet and sprinted out of the bathroom, down the hallway, where he fought with the coat hanger for his sweatshirt.
Jinki cringed when the crisp papers brushed against his fingers, knowing fully well that he was now stamped as an accomplice in crime.
"All's fair in love and war," Jinki flashed a small smile at Minho's empty bed. "Or something like that."
o2. splenda
"That's why I told you, hyung," Minho sighs into the magazine that he holds before him with interest, "an apple a day--"
"--keeps the doctor away, I know." Jinki flails his arm before the taller boy, a look of desperation weighing heavily on his features. "But the sugar in apples apparently doesn't keep the dentist away!"
Minho raises a brow at the older singer and almost laughs, but he bites his lip back with a row of pearly whites (Jinki sees that he's mocking him and deliberately putting him down with simple actions, and his face turns a bright red) before he chuckles, "Hyung, that's just because you don't brush your teeth. The dentist can't do that for you."
With crossed arms, Jinki turns to face the white wall before him and the row of girls and ladies squirming at the sight of the leader of Shinee sitting in a crummy blue, plastic seat fit for toddlers. He waves hello, flashes a smile, and then covers his mouth abruptly after. "Damn it," he grumbles, and Minho snorts.
"Don't worry, hyung," smiles the taller boy as he leans forward and buries his face in the crook of his neck, despite the obvious squawks of disapproval and embarrassment. "We'll get through this together, all right?"
Apparently his promise wasn't enough to keep screams of agony and anger from ringing down the hallways of the office building, and Minho only flips to the next page, a dainty grin tugging his lips.
o3. bloom
* Kibum rubbed his eyes with the backs of his hands, irritated by the way the sunlight broke through their thin curtains. Silence was truly deafening in the mornings, Kibum realized, as he shifted around slightly to find room for his arms.
But when he opened his swollen eyes, let his arms fall down (only to hit something oddly and ridiculously bumpy), and turned his face, he did a double take into the wall beside him. A silent scream hung from his lips as he examined the sight of a beaming Jinki facing him in return.
"Why're you--"
"Good morning," he chimed, face leaning in closer until Kibum couldn't pull back, and he blew a small kiss on his nose. "Ready for a great day of adventure today?"
"Hyung," the rapper croaked as he covered his nose in embarrassment (though his thin fingers failed to cover the dusty red that stained his cheeks), "really? This early in the morning?"
Jinki only flashed him a wide smile before he laughed in the small space between them. Kibum sighed.
"Let's just hope this doesn't become a friggin' ritual every day."
o4. bells
"But I'm only nineteen." Kibum wrung his hands together as Jonghyun stared at him, eyes wide and piercing. "I mean, Jjong, there's a difference between--"
"Better soon than never, I always say." They stared at each other for a while, before Kibum's eyes became thin, watching slits.
"Actually no, you don't. You're also the worst procrast--"
Jonghyun silently reached out and grabbed the rapper's wrists, pulling him in close so that their noses were barely touching (he had to stand a bit on his toes, but he didn't quite mind the extra strain). He smiled and puffed a great cloud of air into Kibum's face, the image of him scrunching his nose much too cute for the older boy as he laughed.
"You know me. It's much too cruel to keep love waiting like that." He cut off all other words that were threatening to shoot out of Kibum's lips with a slow kiss, and deft fingers slipped on a small ring that glinted under the radiating light of his smile. "I love you, you know that?"
Kibum inhaled sharply as the familiar heat rose from his toes to his ears, and then he looked away, grumbling, "Take responsibility" for only the two of them to hear.
Jonghyun laughed loud enough for the whole world to know.
