i agree whole heartedly with your views, and now i must read this book. but you know i just like wearing the clothes i wear and looking "nice" just because i want to do it for myself. is that possible? does it matter that i want my boobs to look nice in a shirt, it's not my prerogative if a man wants to think nasty thoughts. i guess it doesn't help to change the culture, or make men realize that women aren't just sex toys. but it just feels nice to wear something sexy for a male or a female to appreciate.
looking good for yourself isn't bad ;) I think you're sexy, and you have confidence in yourself
This book focuses more on the whole Girls Gone Wild phenomenon, the increasing popularity of striptease aerobics, and other stuff like that. The porno-ization of popular culture.
I had already heard about this book in my English class when my (female) teacher gave us a critique about this book to read. Opposing views were interesting, but overall I agreed with the author's view of current "feminism".I haven't had a chance to buy this book due to my current financial situation (SUPER BROKE!!!), but I wish to one day put my hands on it ;). What I find sad though, is that the girls that SHOULD pick up and read this book, never will.
That's a bit odd to assign reading a critique without first reading an original...What was it criticizing, exactly?
I found it in a second-hand bookstore, so it wasn't terribly expensive. The paperback version sells for $11 on Amazon ($8.51 used), but I'd try my luck at a library first.
Imagine a young women's magazine that talked about that instead of how to please men. Maybe that would reach them...
Well, we were going over feminism as a broad subject, among the things we read was also Judy Brady's Why I Want a Wife, which if you haven't read I totally suggest you read it (funny stuff).
